Pitta Patta Poultry;

Pen 1: Plymouth Rock (Large, Dark Barred)

My plymouth Rock pen is currently made up of several lines. My original birds are excellent utility rocks and are strong layers. I have just added 4 new pullets to the pen. 3 large dark barred with exquisite barring and typ plus 1 buff plumouth rock pullet.

Above Snowflake - Snowflakes genetics originate from a line of Light sussex. This pure white little girl with beautiful yellow legs is a largish bantam sized girl who will be assisting my breeding program toward some bantam white rocks. Unfortunately I won't be able to sell any eggs from snowflake this breeding season.

Pen 2: White Bantam Australorp .

2009 will see the White Bantam Australorp written up in the standards for the very first time.

Being a condensed version of the large Australorp, I find the bantam variety a more shapely and attractive bird. Their broad square build gives them the appearance of mini muscle men. Despite their size they are excellent layers of a decent egg.

Clyde is a beautiful, gentlemanly little boy; his crisp white feathers are showing in a lot of his chicks. Clyde has himself some nice little pullets in all colours, White (Bonnie), blue (river), blue (rain), black (storm) & splash (well Splash). Trial hatchings have shown excellent fertility and has been producing some beautiful black, blue and white chicks.

I will have batches of white and mixed coloured eggs and chicks for sale throughout the breeding season.

Pen 3: Quail Barbu D'anvers

This pen is my newest addition to the flock. D'Anvers are simply amazing little birds to see in action and are still on the "Rare Breeds" list. Although colouring isn't perfect in these birds they have a good type and I will be looking at ways to improve the colouring in my breedig program. After some trial hatchings, I should have some pet quality d'anvers and limited numbers of eggs available.

(Above,Salt) Salt is a Mini sized bantam light sussex pullet belonging to my 9 yo daughter. She is a friendly little girl and is adored as much for her easy going placid nature as she is for her tiny frame. Salt stands about as tall as the D'Anver girls but with a fuller sussix shape. She will be spending some time with Harley and the D'Anver girls this breeding season to hopefull produce some interesting colours in some x breed mouse sized chooks. (Unfortunately none of salts eggs will be for sale this breeding season)

Pen 5: Crazy Chooks

The Crazy Chook Pen is a mixed variety of purebred bantam and light breeds. These chooks are chosen purely on their quirky looks and adorable nature. When this pen is in full swing we can look forward to some gorgeous little pets that should bless you with a few eggs every year.

(Above, Spartan) Spartan is a second generation silkie X polish. His colours are magnificent and he sports an amaizing head of dreadlocks. He is still quite young and just learning to crow.

(Above, Mumble) Mumble the Lavendar Araucans. Mumble has some unusual characteristics including the extra heavey head gear, vaulted skull and webbed outer feet. Mumble belongs to my 3 yo daughter but is a particular favourite for the whole family. The pint sized little bird is the perfect size for macro cuddles and for little hands to carry. Her araucana makeup mean we can look forward to some lovely batches of green/blue coloured eggs.

(Above Crazy Daisy). Daisy is a White Crested Black frizzled polish. Daisy has a quirky, curious nature that should make her a perfect companion for Spartan and Mumble. Polish are still considered a rare breed in australia, the males grow an unusual buterfly shaped comb that sits up under their pom pom on top of their heads.

As a crazy, artistic, chook loving mum of 4 young children, there is alway a pitta patta of little feet in my home... thus "Pitta Patta Cottage" was born.

The chick-adiction all began when I was given 3 gorgeous Gold Laced Wyandotte Bantams (Home Page picture). Not only are these girls amazing layers and mothers, they are simply beautiful birds to look at. After looking into the other pure breeds of chickens available I started hatching eggs purchased from other sources to build up my own breeding stock. Between myself and my 4 children we currently have breeding pens of Barbu D'Uccles, Barbu D'Anvers, Bantam Australorp and large Dark Barred Plymouth Rocks. I also have an assortment of other hens and pullets.

I am thoroughly enjoying being able to do my bit in preserving old and rare breeds.

To make mention of my artworks;

I have previously taught folk art, decorative painting and landscapes. Although painting is one of my passions I don't get as much time as I would like to indulge myself these days.

Although I am not fine tuned in my quilting techniques, my true talent lies in the pictorial designs I have created to produce quilts. I have also been very fortunate to combine my 2 favourite artistic past times by producing my own hand painted quilt panels.

I have currently removed my artwork pages but will update these at a more appropriate time!
